STAND’s leadership team consists of a Managing Committee, State Advocacy Leads, and chapter leaders across the country. State Advocacy Leads connect to influential grasstops and grassroots leaders in their state, plan local advocacy strategy with our Outreach and Advocacy Teams, write op-eds, lobby locally, and mobilize people in their state to take urgent actions.

Homeschool & Howard Community College

Khadeeja is a homeschooled high school senior and dually enrolled student at Howard Community College. In the past she has interned for Burma Task Force, a nonprofit dedicated to ending the genocide of minority groups in Burma. Over the 2020-2021 academic year Khadeeja will be working with STAND as Maryland’s State Advocacy Lead. Along with STAND, Khadeeja will be working on the Lost Voices of Pakistan’s Journalism committee. In her spare time she manages her Islamic greeting card business and tutors middle school through college level math.

Terre Haute South Vigo High School

Dorene Hantzis is a junior at Terre Haute South Vigo High School in Indiana. She has been an active member of the THS chapter of STAND since her freshman year. Currently, Dorene serves as a chapter leader and social media manager. Dorene’s work with STAND has included helping organize and produce a virtual version of the chapter’s annual vigil and the butterfly mural project. Dorene spoke about Sustainability in Daily Life at the Terre Haute Human Rights Day 2020, hosted by Indiana State University. Through STAND, Dorene has become highly involved with “Together We Remember,” a national organization that shares much of STAND’s mission. She is a founder of the TWR Youth Action Committee, which seeks to mobilize young people in the work to end genocide and global atrocities. Dorene helped produce the final hour of the 2020 TWR 24 hour Remembrance Vigil, she also collaborated with the Jerusalem Youth Choir on a virtual music workshop and works regularly with the Global Interfaith Alliance. Dorene volunteers with “Calling all Crows,” designing graphics for their sexual assault prevention virtual training as well. Dorene is excited to pursue the work of State Advocate and give other Hoosier students the opportunity to make a positive difference in the world.
