U.R. STAND

STAND, A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition (formerly Students Taking Action Now: Darfur) at the University of Redlands is committed to ending genocide in our world. Right now, student anti-genocide activists are committed to stopping the 5 year genocide in Darfur, Sudan & Burma/Myanmar. In order to create positive change for the people of Darfur, STAND at the UR focuses on 3 pillars: knowledge and awareness, advocacy, and fundraising.

* KNOWLEDGE & AWARENESS: There is a genocide going on RIGHT now, and some people don't even know about it. So we spread the word- to students, the university, AND the surrounding community. HOW: speakers, film screenings, Johnston seminar fall 2007 "Darfur: A Deeper Understanding of Genocide," photo exhibits, STAND for Love, Party with a Purpose, Voices from Darfur convocation, Mini-Conference, etc.
* ADVOCACY: our government officials work for the people, for humanity and they have the power because of the people to create positive change in the world. We influence government to take swift and sustainable action to end the genocide throughout the world HOW: letter writing, call-ins, emails, petitions, office visits, getting our work in the press, making it known that a representative's constituency cares about Darfur, Burma, etc.
* FUNDRAISING: hopeful musical events & community gatherings are great venues to raise money for the Genocide Intervention Network's Civilian Protection Program.
