Pledge2Protect: The Campaign
This fall, STAND, the student-led division of Genocide Intervention Network, is supporting student activists across the country participating in Pledge2Protect, an innovative campaign aimed at strengthening the movement to protect civilians from genocide and mass atrocities by pushing Congress to implement the recommendations of the Genocide Prevention Task Force Report (GPTF).
Pledge2Protect has three core components:
-
Pledge: On Camera (Sign up now!) Through a powerful partnership with WITNESS, a human rights organization working to highlight human rights violations and catalyze policy change using video and online technologies, STAND students will bring some of their Senators’ most influential constituents with them when they lobby for genocide prevention. They will do this by using the power of video to do something that's never been done. Students will ask prominent individuals from their communities to show their support for genocide prevention on camera, then use collaborative video editing tools to craft a unique, individually-tailored video message asking their senators to implement GPTF recommendations.
-
Pledge: On the Hill (Register now!) Students will bring their videos to Capitol Hill for Pledge2Protect, a conference of over 1,000 leaders in the anti-genocide movement. On November 9, the final day of the conference, students will take genocide prevention and the voices of their communities to Congress during the largest lobby day in genocide prevention history.
-
Pledge: In the Streets (Coming soon!) Finally, STAND students will bring their message of civilian protection and genocide prevention to the streets during a national canvass to build awareness of the anti-genocide movement. Students will go out into their communities, asking ordinary citizens to join the permanent anti-genocide constituency.
