Pledge: On Camera
This fall, STAND is partnering with WITNESS to incorporate video into our advocacy and amplify our efforts to push for a comprehensive US government strategy to prevent genocide and mass atrocities. Leading up to the Pledge2Protect conference and Lobby Day on November 9, we’ll be collecting hundreds of “calls to action” and providing chapters with resources to create unique, collaboratively-edited advocacy videos tailored to their senators and featuring their senators’ most influential constituents. Pledge: On Camera is one of three components of STAND's Fall 2009 Pledge2Protect campaign.

What Can You Do to Take Part?
Level 1: Citizens’ Calls to Action.
Everyone can film themselves personally asking their senator to support genocide prevention legislation. Film and take pictures of yourself, your classmates, and your family members giving short “calls to action.” These will be used to demonstrate widespread support among each senator’s constituency for genocide prevention legislation leading up to the Pledge2Protect Lobby Day on November 9.
Level 2: Collaborative Editing.
In addition to collecting calls for action, sign-up to work with other chapters in your state to create a collaboratively-edited video tailored to your senator and featuring people in your state with particular influence over him or her. These videos will be shown at lobby meetings during the Pledge2Protect Lobby Day
Collaborative editing involves 5 simple steps
-
Step 1: Sign Up! And indicate your interest in participating.
- Step 2: Plan! Working with other STAND chapters in your state, locate filming equipment, conduct research to determine ideal messages for your senator and local “influentials” best suited to deliver them, and ask those people to participate
- Step 3: Film! Film key “influentials” in your state.
- Step 4: Edit! Upload footage of their statements onto the collaborative video editing platform and combine it with the “core” video and other footage provided by WITNESS and STAND to create a video uniquely tailored to your senator.
- Step 5: Share and Lobby! On the last day of the Pledge2Protect conference, students will bring their collaboratively-edited videos to their lobby meetings.
