Round the Clock Call In
Congratulations! Secretary Clinton will be receiving a phone call every single minute of the day on Friday, a huge step toward an appointment of a special envoy. If you didn't get a chance to sign up, it's extremely important that you call 1-800-GENOCIDE (1-800-436-6243) at some point during the day. The more calls, the better!
President Obama and Secretary Clinton have already appointed envoys for the Middle East, South Asia, and climate change. Where is the new envoy for Sudan? Encourage Obama to show his commitment to ending the genocide in Darfur by appointing a new high-level envoy to Sudan.
Although President Bush's envoy Rich Williamson made an effort to improve the situation in Darfur, his temporary appointment status rendered him less able to undertake time- and energy-intensive programs.
As a former state-level party leader, he is also not sufficiently high-level enough to make much of a change in Sudan policy. Without a long-term, high-level envoy for Sudan, diplomatic efforts have stagnated.
Demand that the new administration appoint such an envoy immediately. Sign up below and join chapters across the country in our round-the-clock, nation-wide call-in to the State Department. Tell Secretary Clinton to encourage the appointment of a new high-level envoy for Sudan.
What happens when you make the call?
When you call 1-800-GENOCIDE (1-800-436-6243), you'll enter your zip code and then follow the prompts to be connected to the State Department.
Once connected, you'll be told about the State Department website, then asked to leave a comment. Say your name, where you're from, and that the United States must appoint a Special Envoy to Sudan.
It will only take a minute, but we can show Secretary Clinton that the American public wants Darfur to be a top foreign policy priority.
Sign up below to let us know that you plan to call 1-800-GENOCIDE tomorrow!
