| Ari Osteen |
Florida State Outreach Coordinator (Lake Mary High School, 2008)
I was born in Lake Mary, Florida and have experienced all 17years of life there. Many of my family perished in the atrocities of the Holocaust and we said, "Never Again." I do not make empty promises. I strongly believe that oppression of anyone, regardless of race, color, or religion is immoral and unjustified. Although I've lived in the same house my whole life, it was on my travels around the world that I pull my inspirations from. I have been to 8 countries and it will be 9 this year when I travel to Egypt. One particularly inspirational story occured on my trip to Ukraine. My father was asked by Doctors Without Borders to travel to Ukraine and teach the doctors there modern procedures and to deliver more sophisticated equipment. Before my trip to Ukraine, I didn't know much of life outside the U.S. But when I walked into the operating room and doctors were fixing broken bones with a hammer and chisel, and smoking during the whole bit--I realized that not everyone lives like me. As a result of all these inspirations, I founded a STAND chapter at Lake Mary High School, which has been a tremendous success. I now look forward to connecting all of Florida in such a great and awesome undertaking as State Outreach Coordinator. I feel that to save one life is to save the world and if we can impact the world in any positive way, than we have done a great deed to humankind. |
